
SENECA – October 2nd is the anniversary of the discovery of an African American woman whose body was found in a ditch in Grundy County 43 years ago. Today, Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says the re-opened case has made significant progress through the help of media and modern-day forensic technology. Currently the office is working with the National DNA registry bank, waiting on test results, hoping to get a match.
The woman’s body was found in a Grundy County ditch in October 1976. She had been shot in the head and was 18 to 23 years old, with a scar on her right hip.
