SPRINGFIELD – A rare meteorological display dazzled residents across Illinois, as far south as Decatur, when the Aurora Borealis danced in the northern skies for a few hours late Sunday. A massive geomagnetic storm allowed the northern lights to be seen as far south as Texas. Those lucky enough to see the cloud free sky were treated to green and red shimmers of plasma in the upper atmosphere.
