OTTAWA – A man authorities described as homeless is facing multiple charges after an alleged attempted robbery of a gas station and a vehicle theft in Ottawa. The Ottawa Police Department say they were called around 1:15 AM last Saturday to a gas station in the 1500 block of Columbus Street in reference to an attempted robbery where they say the suspect implied they had a weapon. On Monday around 1 AM at the same gas station a vehicle was reported stolen, and officers located it crashed and abandoned in the 1500 block of Guion Street. Police say they identified 45-year-old Eugene J. Orvis as a suspect and took him into custody later that morning. Orvis was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Attempted Aggravated Robbery. He currently is being held at the LaSalle County Jail.
