Matthiessen State Park
 Trail closures at Starved Rock State Park have meant more visitors to the neighboring Matthiessen State Park in LaSalle County.  Trails have been closed at Starved Rock since storms on June 30 downed trees. Mathiessen Park Superitendent Mark McConnaughhay says the Starved Rock trail closures have "put more people on the trails at Matthiessen" than he's seen in "quite some time."

Worker Shooting
 Chicago police say a demoted worker shot and critically injured his company's CEO before fatally shooting himself at their office in a downtown high-rise office building.    Police say a worker at a technological company in the Bank of America Building entered the 17th-floor office Thursday and met with his CEO before pulling a gun.    Police say there was a struggle for the gun, and the CEO was shot twice before the gunman fatally shot himself. 
 Energy watchdog groups are worried that Exelon's plan to buy one of its competitors will be bad for northern Illinois electricity customers. Exelon said Wednesday that it's buying the retail business of Integrys for $60 million. Environmental Law and Policy Center executive director Howard Learner says Exelon's acquisition of Integrys could reduce competition and lead to higher utility bills.

LaSalle Teen
Authorities say that a  La Salle teen who died in a June car accident in Ottawa was under the influence of drugs.   La Salle County Coroner Jody Bernard says 17-year old Zachary Behrens was under the influence of LSD and marijuana.    Authorities say Behrens was westbound on Main Street in Ottawa on the evening of June 16th, when he crossed Boyce Memorial Drive and hit a curb, crashed through a security fence and over an embankment into water in a sand pit.
I-80 Accident
A crash on I-80 near Ottawa injured a teenage boy who was laying down in the backseat of a car.     Illinois State Police say a 60 year old Chicago man was driving eastbound on I-80 Tuesday morning when his vehicle began to veer off the road and he lost control of his Cadillac.    The crash forced the rear driver’s side door open, ejecting the 15 year old lying down in the back seat.  The teen was taken to Saint Elizabeth’s hospital in Ottawa. 
The driver was cited for improper lane usage and improper child restraint.

Ottawa Fire Chief
The fire chief at the Ottawa Fire Department will be retiring next month. Chief Jeff Newbury has been with the Ottawa Fire Department for nearly 30 years, dating back to October 1984 and has been serving as the Chief since October 2010.  Newbury is taking up a position at Sauk Valley Community College beginning in the fall as an Assistant Professor of Fire Science.
