A two vehicle collision in Lee County near the LaSalle County Line Friday afternoon has injured three people. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by 44 year old Bennie Sumner, of Mendota, was southbound on Route 52 shortly before noon and apparently went into the northbound lane, hitting head on a van driven by 64 year old Cyril Ward, of Amboy. Police say both drivers were flown to Rockford hospitals, and a passenger in Ward’s van, 4 year old Brayden Ward, was taken to Mendota Community Hospital.

Jordan Lynch Northern Illinois University
The Chicago Bears waived former Northern Illinois star quarterback Jordan Lynch yesterday. A Heisman Trophy finalist for the Huskies last season, Lynch was trying to make the Bears as a running back after being signed as an undrafted free agent. He could still wind up on their practice squad if he's not picked up by another team.
University of Illinois Controversy
The University of Illinois is wrestling with a controversy over a professor's withdrawn job offer. The administration recently rescinded a job offer to an English professor named Steven Salaita to join the university's American Indian Studies program. Salaita had over the summer used Twitter to angrily and sometimes profanely denounce Israel during its conflict with the Palestinians. Emails released by the university show that dozens of students, parents and donors begged Chancellor Phyllis Wise not to hire Salaita.
