Studio chatter from Rock Band

January 12th, 2010 by mark-peru

Besides the music, the game also lets you unlock rare pictures and videos, and even has some audio of the guys in the studio from the original sessions, clips of which play before the songs.

Great stuff. Listen for some on Sunday mornings!1433061_height370_width560

Beatles for Christmas

December 1st, 2009 by mark-peru

imagesIf you’ve not heard any of the very cool “Christmas covers” of Beatle songs I play during December, be sure to listen these next few Sundays. Groups like “The Fab Four” have very cleverly arranged familiar Beatle melodies to holiday lyrics. Also, we’ll play some selections from the Beatles themselves from their annual Fan Club discs.

It’ll be fab!

Happy Christmas.

so paul has a new record out….

Paul McCartney has contributed a brand new song “(I Want To) Come Home” to the soundtrack for new movie Everybody’s Fine - and it has been posted online.

The film also stars Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell.

The film, starring Robert De Niro is released nationwide on December 4, but you can hear Macca’s new track below.

McCartney says he identified with De Niro’s character in the film, and easily wrote the song in just one evening, saying: “I could definitely identify with Robert De Niro’s character because I have grown-up kids who have their own families.”

Beatles “Isolations” Show

October 27th, 2009 by mark-peru

I’m working on an “Isolations” show. That is, various tracks isolated from others. The new Dolby 5:1 mixes make it outstanding fun.

 Here’s an example;

John Lennon and the number 9

September 9th, 2009 by mark-peru

imagesSo The Beatles, et al, waitied till 09 09 09 to do a mega-release of new product (well, remastered CD’s and the Rock Band). It’s close enough to Christmas to be sure and be a good seller.

What about the date 9/9/2009? It was a superstition John had about the number. Quite a neat way to remember him by doing it today.

John was acutely aware of the fact that the number nine had dominated his life. He was born on Octover 9, 1940. Sean [Lennon's second son] was born on October 9, 1975. Brian Epstein first saw John and the Beatles at Liverpool Cavern on November 9, 1961, and he secured their recording contract with EMI in London on May 9, 1962. The debut record Love me do, was on Parlophone r4949.

John met Yoko Ono on November 9, 1966. John and Yoko’s apartment was located on West 72 streeet, New York City (seven plus two making nine) , and their main Dakota apartment number was also, at first 72. The bus he traveled on as a student each morning from his home to the Liverpool Art college had been the 72. John’s songs included “Revolution #9″, “#9 dream” and “one after 909″ which he had written at his mother’s home at 9 Newcastle(nine letters) Road, Wavertree (nine letters), Liverpool(nine letters).

Breakfast in America

Just a quick nod to another famous band Supertramp and this alternate cover for Breakfast in America. SOMEWHERE there’s an actual photo of the waitress-model posing for the iconic cover. Instead, this one’ll have to do.47276016

July 29th, 2009 by mark-peru

brbimages1Well, some screen shots were released of the Beatles Rock Band game. Its coming out on September 9th of this year. Or 9/9/09.  Its not a coincidence that John Lennon’s favorite (or spirtiually connected-somehows) number was 9.  Remember the famous “Number 9, number 9″ repeated in Revolution 9?

Rumours are it will sell for over $200.

Ringo turned 69 and Paul back on the Ed Sullivan stage

July 15th, 2009 by mark-peru

Well, Ringo turned 69 earlier this month.2191 He was always the oldest Beatle.

Paul will be on Letterman Wed 7/15. Back on the same stage where the Beatles first performed in America in 1964;  Ed Sullivan theatre now, then it was just CBS-TV Studio 50.

This isn’t the first time Paul has been back. He did a series of shows there in 1992 to promote an upcoming tour.

Lets see if they make a big deal about it.

will Paul “Get Back” his Beatle songs from Michael?

July 1st, 2009 by mark-peru

Supposedly Michael Jackson had willed the Beatles songs he owns back to Paul McCartney. We’ll see. Paul says as part of the original 1962 publishing deal, they will revert back to him anyway at a certain date. Probably in 2012; 50 years ago.
