Attention Medicare Beneficiaries! You may qualify for money saving benefits through the Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs. Both Programs have income and asset guidelines. PRINCETON- Diabetes Meeting Offered Monthly
Perry Memorial Hospital wants to provide information and support to those who are dealing with diabetes. Each month, on the 2nd Tuesday, Perry has an informational meeting to provide up-to-date guidelines and realistic ways to manage the diagnosis of diabetes. There will also be time at each meeting for open discussion and sharing of ideas. Please contact at (815) 876-4449 to register for this meeting.


PERU- IVCH Flu Clinic
Illinois Valley Community Hospital has set dates for five public flu immunization clinics at five locations in September and early October.  IVCH nurses will be giving flu shots:
     Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 1 – 4 p.m. at IVCH in Peru. Enter through the ground level entrance on the east side of the building from the south parking lot.
     Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 2-5 p.m. in the IVCH room at Peru Mall (near the Sears store). In addition to the adult vaccine, pediatric doses will also be available from the LaSalle County Health Department at this clinic only.
     Thursday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Illinois Valley Community College.
Flu shots are also available at the IVCH FastCare walk-in clinic, which is open seven days a week at the Peru Walmart. Pneumonia vaccine, which requires a doctor’s order, will also be available at the flu clinics.The fee to receive a flu shot is $30.  Pneumonia shots are $85.  Medicare assignment will be accepted with proof of Medicare Part B eligibility.For more information, call Joan Fernandez at 815-780-4618.


UTICA - Angel of Hope Fest
The Utica Business Association, August Hill Winery and Team Angels Among Us will host Angel of Hope Fest from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, in downtown Utica. There will be artwork, raffles, food and drinks, plus live music by Howard and the White Boys and Big Uproar. Admission is free but donations encouraged as proceeds benefit Relay for Life.


LASALLE- Native American to Speak at Bureau County Genealogical Society
Thursday, Sept. 25 the meeting of the Bureau County Genealogical Society will feature a program presented by Jerry Savage of LaSalle, Illinois. He will discuss how he was born and raised in the traditions of the Ho-Chunk tribe right here in the Illinois Valley. The public is cordially invited to this free program at the Bureau County Genealogical Society library at 629 South Main Street in Princeton beginning at 7:00 pm. A series of four beginning genealogy classes is also being offered by the Society running on Wed. evenings beginning on September 24 and ending on October15 from 7:00 to 9:00pm each evening.  The cost of these classes is $30 and will include a manual.  Preregistration is strongly encouraged.  For more information please contact the Society library between the hours of 10-3:00 on Mon, Tues, Wed., or Friday by stopping by or calling (815) 879-3133.  The library will also be open for First Saturday on Oct 4.

 
DIMMICK - PTO chicken dinner
Dimmick School PTO will hold a chicken dinner rom 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at Rip's Tavern in Ladd. Tickets available at the door for $8. Carry-outs available. Plus, there will be a raffle and 50/50 drawing. Dinner includes all fried chicken varieties and fries. Drinks not included.


LASALLE- Free ITAC Amplified Phone
Free amplified phones are available through the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation program (ITAC). Qualified individuals must be legal residents of Illinois, have a doctor’s or audiologist’s signature verifying hearing loss, and have standard phone service in the residence. There are no age or income restrictions. A Open House is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25 from 9 – 3:30 p.m.. Call now to schedule an appointment or request an application. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are preferred.When you call IVCIL request that an application be sent to you and also schedule your appointment. Please bring your application and copies of the required paperwork. PRINCETON- Prostate Cancer Screening
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a prostate cancer screening on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the White Oak Classroom. All men age 50 and above, that are not under the care of an urologist, should be screened. Men age 40 and above with a family history of prostate cancer, and all African-American men starting at age 40 should be screened as well. There is a $25 cost for the PSA blood test. LASALLE - BFA fish fry
A BFA fish fry will be from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, at the LaSalle VFW. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.


HOLLOWAYVILLE- Annual German Buffet and Country Store
The Hollowayville United Church of Christ is holding it's Annual German Buffet and Country Store on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 11-3 p.m. Donation is $10.00 for teens and adults, $5.00 for children 6-12 years old and children under 5 eat free. The menu includes: salad bar, pork and kraut, roast turkey in gravy, ham, german potato salad, red cabbage, mashed potatoes, corn, and beans, dessert and beverage. LASALLE- Hog Roast
LaSalle County's Combat Veterans Support Group is holding a Hog Roast Oct. 4. Food will be from 4-8 p.m. and dancing starting at 8 p.m. There will be raffles, games of chance, 50/50 ,silent auctions D&J and dancing, Fee will be $7 in advance and $9 at door. Kids 5-10 are $3.50 at door only and 4 and under are free.
 

MENDOTA- All American Motors Car Show
Celebrating 60 years, AMC is holding their car show on Saturday Oct. 4 at Lake Mendota from 8-3:30 p.m. Awards will be given in a various categories with costs varying as: $20 Pre-registration, $25 Day of Show, $25 Car & Swap space, and $30 Swap only. PRINCETON- Illinois Valley Toy Run
Princeton Lions Club will be hosting the 10th annual Illinois Valley Toy Run Sunday Oct. 19 at Soldiers & Sailors Park on S. Main St. in Princeton starting at 10 a.m.The entry fee will be a $10 new and unwrapped toy for either boy or girl at any age. PRINCETON- Chicago Bus Trip
Take a trip downtown Chicago with Perry Memorial Hospital's 60 Plus Group and Perry Pride on Saturday Oct. 25.. The bus will leave Princeton at 8 a.m. and will return to Princeton by 8 p.m. The cost for this trip is $25 per person for deluxe motor coach transportation. PRINCETON- Health Screening Offered
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a Health Screening on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the White Oak Classroom. A Lipid Profile test, which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides will be offered at $25. The following other tests will also be offered: Chemistry Profile for $31, Thyroid-TSH for $23, and Hemogram for $9. All tests except the Hemogram and Thyroid-TSH require a 12 hour fasting. Pre-registration is required. Please bring physician’s name and address to the screening. Tests cannot be completed without this information. Juice and coffee will be available.
