HENRY - A Grand Night performance
It will truly be a "grand night" at River Valley Players when the songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein are presented cabaret style. A Grand Night for Singing offers something for everyone. Contact Judy at (309) 364-3403 for tickets.  Tickets for the meal and show on Saturdays and Sundays will be $28.50, which includes a lavish salad bar, buffet dinner, 3 beverage choices, coffee, dessert, and the show.  Note: When ordering tickets for the Saturday and Sunday shows, tickets will need to be confirmed by Friday, April 25th, for performances on Saturday, April 26th, and Sunday, April 27th and by Tuesday, April 29th for performances on Saturday, May 3rd, and Sunday, May 4th.  No tickets will be available to purchase at the door for the meal performances.  Tickets for the performance on Friday, May 2nd, will be $17 and are for the show only.  Refreshments will be available for purchase.  On Saturday performances, doors will open at 6:00pm, with dinner at 6:30pm.  On Sunday performances, doors will open at 12:00pm, with dinner at 12:30pm.  On Friday performance, doors will open at 6:30pm, with show beginning at 7:00pm. 

 
PERU - Public Library to host story about the I&M Canal
The Peru Public Library will be hosting a story about the workers of the I&M Canal on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. In 2011, during excavation for a new building in LaSalle, hundreds of human remains were discovered in an old cemetery. Who were they and what were their stories? Some were Irish immigrants, like Sean McCambridge, who escaped near-certain starvation during the Irish potato famine of 1845 and found work in America building the I&M Canal.

There will be an electronic collection on Saturday, April 26 from 9 - 1 p.m. at the IV Cellular parking lot, Marseilles.


STREATOR - Vendor show
3rd Annual Spring Vendor Show to benefit LaSalle County Relay for Life on Saturday, April 26 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Streator Moose Lodge located at 2007 Skelgas Rd. Order or cash & carry, sponsored by Das Mycogen Seeds Relay for Life Team.


MCNABB - Craft and vendor bazaar
A Craft & Vendor Bazaar on Saturday, April 26 from 8 - 4 p.m. at McNabb Fire Department/ Community Center 391 Rt. 89, McNabb. Admission is free & there will be raffle & 50/50 drawing. Food concession available. All proceeds go towards the purchase of loose equipment for the department.


LASALLE - Amplified phones
Free amplified phones are available through the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation program (ITAC). Qualified individuals must be legal residents of Illinois, have a doctor’s or audiologist’s signature verifying hearing loss, and have standard phone service in the residence. There are no age or income restrictions. Open House scheduled Monday, April 28th 9:00 – 3:30. Call now to schedule an appointment or request an application. So you can test and select a FREE amplified phone.  Walk-ins welcome but, appointments are preferred. When you call IVCIL request that an application be sent to you and also schedule your appointment. Please bring your application and copies of the required paperwork. Please note you can come any day to see us about receiving a phone. To get your application for a FREE phone, call the Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living or (IVCIL) at (815) 224-3126. Appointments are preferred but, walk-ins welcome. IVCIL is open 8:30 A-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.


PERU - Salad luncheon

PERU - Evening with Nellie Bly
Are you looking for the spirit of adventure? Then join Tricia Kelly at Peru Public Library Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. for the story of Nellie Bly.The New York Journalist, Nellie Bly took a famous trip around the world and also took on the role of an inmate at Blackwell's Asylum, and wrote of the horrors she witnessed. This one hour, first person presentation is sure to enlighten and entertain.


MENDOTA - Cinco De Mayo festival
The Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council celebrates its 15th Annual Cinco De Mayo Festival at the Mendota Civic Center on Friday, May 2 from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate cultural awareness. Please attend this free event and enjoy authentic food, folkloric dancers, raffles, information booths, queen, mini king & mini queen contests, and entertainment for all.


STREATOR - Trivia night
Friday, May 2 the Streatorland Historical Society will be hosting a night of trivia at the Streator K of C’s Hall. This fundraiser will be to raise money for the continued operation and maintenance of the Streatorland Historical Society Museum. Trivia will begin @ 7 p.m. Teams need to consist of 5-10 persons with the cost of $10 per person. There will be food, raffles, 50-50 drawing and more. LASALLE - Special Education workshop
Join the Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living and Family Matters PTIC for a FREE Special Education workshop. “Student Progress: What Support Does Your Child Need Over the Summer?” will be held on Thursday, May 8 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.in the IVCIL conference room. At this FREE workshop you will learn about extended school year eligibility requirements, providing summer activities at home and in the community, resources for summer supports, and monitoring progress year round.  2.5 CPDUs will be available for educators, and a certificate of attendance will also be available. LASALLE - Teen social event
IVCIL will be hosting a “Costume Video Skit Night” Teen Social in their conference room on Friday May 9 from 6-8 pm. We are inviting Teens with disabilities ages 13-21 that are still in High School to come dressed up as their favorite career (Doctor, Nurse, Construction Worker, Business Person, etc.). We will be acting out scenarios, videotaping them and playing back for our enjoyment! If you don’t have a costume, we will have something you could use. Snacks will be available. PERU - Garden faire
The Illinois Valley Herb Guild invites you to Garden Faire on Saturday, May 10 from 9 - 3 p.m. at St. Bede Abbey & Academy. There will be various craft vendors & 49 different herbs.


OTTAWA - Memorial Day salute
Bridges Senior Center will offer a Memorial Day Salute on Wednesday, May 14 at Noon. Bring a dish to pass. Followed by a presentation about the "Buddy Poppy" that is distributed by the VFW & was inspired by the famous poem "Flanders Field".


SHERIDAN - Kumla dinner

PERU - Kid's fishing expo
A free beginning fishing “How to” clinic for boys and girls ages 6 and up on Saturday, May 17 from 9 - 2 p.m.at Baker Lake, Peru.  Sessions begin every 15 minutes.  Free fishing games with prizes, casting games and live fish displays.  Free food and soda. Learn to cast, tie a knot, bait a hook, tie a fly, identify your catch, clean a fish and lots more.    A limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan.  BSA scouts can earn the fishing merit badge.  Games by the Pouncing Panthers 4H Club.  Safety information provided by the Peru Police Department. UTICA - Vendor show
The Utica Fire Department will host its second annual vendor show from 11 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at the fire station. Proceeds from the show will help the fire department purchase new gear and a new fire truck.


SANDWICH - Auto Show
43rd Annual Auto Show at the Sandwich Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 25 from 8 - 3 p.m. Antique- classic- special interest cars & trucks pluse a flea market & swap meet. TROY GROVE - Wild Bill Hickock Day

There will be Wild West skits, frontier gun collection & Wild Bill shoot out re-enactment by Single Action Action Shooting Society. TONICA - Empower Flower Benefit
Support Denise Flower at the Empower Flower Benefit on Saturday, May 31 from 3 - 10 p.m. at Tonica Fire Department. There will be 50/50, raffles & a silent auction. LASALLE - Kid's fishing tournament
The 29th annual Kid's Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 7. Registration is at 8 a.m. & fish times are 9 - 11 a.m. at Lock 14 in LaSalle. A competitive youth fishing tournament with free snacks and soda provided.  Bait provided.  Prizes will be awarded in two different age groups: 4-12 years and 13-15 years.  Bring your own tackle, one pole, one hook and no artificial lures.Sponsored by: Better Fishing Association of Northern Illinois, Illinois Department of natural Resources, Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club & LaSalle Rotary Club
