LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE
Tri-County Opportunities Council’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program may be able to help with a one-time payment toward your utility bills. If you have not applied and received assistance since September 1, 2013 from LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) or PIPP (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) you can apply now. To receive assistance a household must be within the income guidelines and provide the following information: copies of social security cards for every member in the household, 30 day income for every household member, a current complete gas and electric bill and Medicaid card for any household member that may receive one. Additional information may be requested at the time of application. LIHEAP applications will be taken through May 30, 2014 or until funds are exhausted.


INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE
International Student Exchange, a non-profit and Dept. of State approved program is seeking caring families in our area to host high school age international students. These students are ages 15-18 & now available for 'Adoption' for 5-12 months. Students come with medical insurance & spending money. PONTIAC - Fundraiser

MENDOTA - Movie time
The Graves-Hume Library's Children Department will be having movie time on Wednesday, April 16 from 1 - 2:45 p.m. Come spend an afternoon watching the movie "Frozen" during Spring Break. OHIO - Passion Mime
The Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) from Ohio First Lutheran will be presenting the “Passion Mime” on Maundy Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 PM at First Lutheran in Ohio, IL which is located at 201 S. Main St. (IL Hwy 26) in Ohio, Illinois. All are invited to come and see this dramatic representation of the Last Supper, the arrest and the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. MENDOTA - Story hour and egg hunt
The Graves-Hume Library's Children Department will be hosting a story hour and egg hunt on Thursday, April 17 from 3:30 - 4:30. Hoppy Easter for children ages 3 - Kindergarten. OTTAWA - Genealogy speech
Saturday, April 19, The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will meet at The Guild Library located at 115 W. Glover St. Ottawa at 1 p.m. The speaker will be Rachael Mellen, an experienced lecturer that has given speeches on English genealogy & related topics to many genealogical societies and libraries. 


OTTAWA - Run/walk
6th annual Moose Miles 5K run/walk Saturday April 19, the race starts at 10 am rain or shine, The race will start and finish at the Ottawa Moose Lodge 960. Pre-registration is $20 if received by April 14 after the 14th or day of the race is $25.We have online registration and we will also Friday Night Packet Pick up from 4-7pm at the Moose Lodge 4/18/2014. PERU - Public Library to host story about the I&M Canal
The Peru Public Library will be hosting a story about the workers of the I&M Canal on Thursday, April 24 at
6:30 p.m. In 2011, during excavation for a new building in LaSalle, hundreds of human remains were discovered in an old cemetery. Who were they and what were their stories? Some were Irish immigrants, like Sean McCambridge, who escaped near-certain starvation during the Irish potato famine of 1845 and found work in America building the I&M Canal.

MCNABB - Craft and vendor bazaar
A Craft & Vendor Bazaar on Saturday, April 26 from 8 - 4 p.m. at McNabb Fire Department/ Community Center 391 Rt. 89, McNabb. Admission is free & there will be raffle & 50/50 drawing. Food concession available. All proceeds go towards the purchase of loose equipment for the department.

PERU - Evening with Nellie Bly
Are you looking for the spirit of adventure? Then join Tricia Kelly at Peru Public Library Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. for the story of Nellie Bly.The New York Journalist, Nellie Bly took a famous trip around the world and also took on the role of an inmate at Blackwell's Asylum, and wrote of the horrors she witnessed. This one hour, first person presentation is sure to enlighten and entertain.

PERU - Kid's fishing expo
A free beginning fishing “How to” clinic for boys and girls ages 6 and up on Saturday, May 17 from 9 - 2 p.m.at Baker Lake, Peru.  Sessions begin every 15 minutes.  Free fishing games with prizes, casting games and live fish displays.  Free food and soda. Learn to cast, tie a knot, bait a hook, tie a fly, identify your catch, clean a fish and lots more.    A limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan.  BSA scouts can earn the fishing merit badge.  Games by the Pouncing Panthers 4H Club.  Safety information provided by the Peru Police Department. UTICA - Vendor show
The Utica Fire Department will host its second annual vendor show from 11 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at the fire station. Proceeds from the show will help the fire department purchase new gear and a new fire truck.


TROY GROVE - Wild Bill Hickock Day
Celebrate "Wild Bill Hickock Day" on Sunday, May 25 from 11 - 3 p.m. in the Wild Bill Hickock Memorial Park & at Village Park at Mechanic & Ottawa St. Troy Grove. There will be Wild West skits, frontier gun collection & Wild Bill shoot out re-enactment by Single Action Action Shooting Society. TONICA - Empower Flower Benefit
Support Denise Flower at the Empower Flower Benefit on Saturday, May 31 from 3 - 10 p.m. at Tonica Fire Department. There will be 50/50, raffles & a silent auction. LASALLE - Kid's fishing tournament
The 29th annual Kid's Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 7. Registration is at 8 a.m. & fish times are 9 - 11 a.m. at Lock 14 in LaSalle.
