MENDOTA - Cinco De Mayo Festival
The Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council celebrates its 17th Annual Cinco De Mayo Festival at the Mendota High School, on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate cultural awareness.  Please attend this free event and enjoy authentic Mexican food, folkloric dancers, raffles, information booths, queen, mini king & mini queen contests, and entertainment for all.  Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. To this day, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in several U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population including the Illinois Valley.

Heartland Bank and Trust Company, as trustee of the Henkel Scholarship Trust, is seeking applications for the 2015 scholarship award. Application forms and criteria area available at the LaSalle County Regional Superintendent of Schools web site at www.roe35.org. PERU - Peru Library Daycation Bus trips
Ever wanted to your the Deere mansion? Experinece the first electrified Illinois farm? See Steampunk invade a Renaissance Faire? PRINCETON- Diabetes Meeting Offered Monthly
Perry Memorial Hospital wants to provide information and support to those who are dealing with diabetes. Each month, on the 2nd Tuesday, Perry has an informational meeting to provide up-to-date guidelines and realistic ways to manage the diagnosis of diabetes. PERU - Spring Preschool T-ball Program.
The Illinois Valley YMCA will be conducting a Spring Preschool T-ball Program.  The goal of the program is for our experience program staff to teach basic t-ball skills building in a game setting.  The program is for preschool aged children, 3-5 years old.  It will be every Saturday from April 4th to May 9th, 10-11:30 a.m. It costs $25 for YMCA members and $35 for nonmembers.  Participants will get a t-shirt.  For more information contact Casy Loving, Youth Program Director at the IV YMCA at 815 223 7904 ext. 32. 


OTTAWA - Bell Ringing to Commemorate End of the Civil War
The Reddick Mansion Association alogn with the Canal Corridor Association invites the churches, schools, public buildings, historic sites, amd all citizens to ring their bellsfor four minutes to represent the four years of the Civil War.  At 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 2015 The Reddick Mansion Association invites the general public to bring their hand bells or cell phones and meet in Washington Square in downtown Ottawa.  At 2:15 p.m., the gathered group will ring their bells for 4 mnutes.  The Choral Group from Illinois Valley Community College will also be in the park singing.  Reddick Mansion will be open and offering free coffee, lemonade, and cookies to al participants.

The SGS Band-Aids will be the recipient of funds raised at the April 16, 2016 Quarter Auction at the Streator Moose! We need a huge crowd to make the event successful!! Ottawa - Reddick Mansion Presents "Bringing Back A Hero"
On Saturday evening, April 18th, at 7:00 pm, the Reddick Mansion Assosiaction along with the Book Mouse will present the first in a series of "Readings by the Author", Bringing Back a Hero by Captain Robert Jornlin.  The book tells the story of Jornlin and his crew of veterans and their commitment and dedication to bringing LST 325 back to working condition and then sailing it more than 6000 miles, from Crete, Greece to Mobile AL.

UTICA - Pancake breakfast
Waltham Elementary School District 185 will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 19, from 8 a.m .until 12:30 p.m. in the Walthan North Gym in Utica. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and beverage. Tickets are $6 per person for adults, $3 for children ages 4 through 13 and free to children 3 and under. There will also be rafles, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. Proceeds will benefit students and teachers of Waltham Elementary School.


UTICA - Nothing's Sweeter than a Child
LaSalle County CASA (court appointed special advocate) will hold its 8th annual "Nothing's Sweeter than a Child" chocolate sampling and auction on April 19, at Celebrations 150 in Utica. Streator Township High School Educational Foundation presents its “Trivia Night”, Friday, April 24, 2015 at The Streator Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost is $10 per person. Tables of up to 10 players are welcome to form a team. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Trivia begins at 7:00 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded. Raffles will take place during the event. LAMOILLE – Lions Club 40th Anniversary
The La Moille Lions Club announces it will observe its 40 Year Anniversary with an Open House on Saturday, April 25, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM at its club house, located at 308 Howard St., La Moille. Established in 1975, members of the Club have been providing services to the residents of Arlington, La Moille, Van Orin and the surrounding areas. The purpose of the Open House is to allow the organization to meet the individuals they serve to personally thank them for their assistance over the past 40 years and to ask their continued support in the future.
A full schedule of activities is planned for the April 25 event which will include food, music and door prizes. Balloons and face painting will be offered the children. As part of the Open House, there will be informational presentations of the Club’s activities and contributions. Members of the Mendota Lions Club, local businesses, schools and individuals who have made special contributions will be recognized.

The 44th annual Old Canal Days Festival, including the annual Arts & Crafts Show will be held on Saturday & Sunday, June 20 & 21, 2015. The juried arts & crafts  is on Saturday the 20th 10-5 p.m. and Sunday the 21st 10-4 p.m. Booth fees are $100 for standard and $120 for a corner. However, there is an "early bird discount" of $20 per booth if applications are received by Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
