LASALLE - Food donations needed
The IL Valley Food Pantry is low on a few items: Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Corn, Instant Potatoes, Cereal.  We would appreciate any donations of any sort!

LASALLE COUNTY - Medicare Beneficiaries
Attention Medicare Beneficiaries! You may qualify for money saving benefits through the Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs. Both Programs have income and asset guidelines. LASALLE COUNTY - Satellite Offices
Bridges Senior Center offers appointmentsat a satellite office in a community near you. Appointments will be held on:

OTTAWA - Blue Star Museum Program 
The Reddick Mansion is offering free admissions to all active duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day, Sept. 1, as part of the Blue Star Museums program. The Blue Star Families is a national, non-profit network of military families from all ranks and services, including guard and reserve dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering military families.

PERU - Grief Recovery Group 
The Illinois Valley Community Hospital Grief Recovery Group will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, in Conference Room “C” on the fourth floor of IVCH. The group allows persons who have recently suffered the loss of someone close to them to share their feelings and experiences with others who have also lost loved ones through death. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.  For more information, call Deacon Ray Fischer, IVCH pastoral care coordinator, at (815)-780-3426..

BUREAU COUNTY - Genealogy Socity Meeting 
The Bureau County Genealogy Society's July 24, meeting will feature a program on the topic of "Wild Bill" Hickok who was born and raised on a farm near Troy Grove, IL, in LaSalle County.  The program will be presented by Steve Dancy, a retired state policeman, who worked in the Field Museum in Chicago and also was a seasonal park ranger at the Little Big Horn Battlefield where he gave programs.  The public is invited to this free program that begins at 7 p.m. at the BCGS library at 629 South Main Street in Princeton.   

STREATOR - Ice Cream Social
The Streator Grade School Band will be holding its annual Ice Cream Social and Concert at the Plumb Pavilion in the Streator City Park on Thursday, July 24, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Ice cream sundaes will be available for $2 with many different toppings. Pop and water will also be available for $1. The concert is free and open to the public.  Please bring a lawn chair.
 
AMBOY - Lee County Fair Blood Drive
The Lee County Farm Bureau and Lee County Fair Association are hosting a blood drive on the opening day of the Lee County 4-H Fair, Thursday, July 24, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Lee County 4-H Center, 1196 Franklin Rd., Amboy. To schedule an appointment, please call Lee County Farm Bureau at (815) 857-3531 or walk-in on Thursday, July 24. AMBOY - Lee County Fair 
The 2014 Lee Co. 4-H Fair & Jr. Show is July 24 rhrough 27 at the Lee Co. 4-H Center & Fairgrounds on Route 30 just north of Amboy. The four day fair features events for everyone including a full grandstand line-up of tractor/truck pulls, mud bogs and dirt drags. SPRING VALLEY - St. Jude Archery fundraiser
Big Buck Archery in support of St. Jude Runs will host its Inaugural 3D Charity Shoot from 9 a.m.to 8 p.m. on both Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 at Time on the Water Outdoors, 515 S. Spalding St. in Spring Valley.  All proceeds benefit the life-saving work of St. Jude Runs. The family friendly event will feature food, a 20 target 3D money shoot, a 100 yard 50/50 shoot, an outdoor pop up shoot, music, a vendor fair and prize drawings. SOMONAUK - Cruise Night
The Somonauk Summerfest 5th annual cruise night will be held on Friday, July 25th at 5:00 p.m. at the Somonauk Community Park. In conjunction with the Somonauk Summerfest, there will be music, food, a playground for the kids, craft show, dash plaques, and goodie bags for the first 100 vehicles, participant door prizes, and a beer garden. $5 registration for Park fund is required. OTTAWA - Cannons, Crafts, and Hard Tack at the Reddick Mansion
On Saturday, July 26th from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., the Reddick Mansion will display two private collections of Civil War artifacts in its Gardens. After viewing a sample the many artifacts and weapons, visitors will be able to sample hardtack, a staple in the diet of Civil War soldiers. Crafts will also be set up in the pergola for the kids, and lemonade and cookies will be served. The cost for this event is $5 for individuals and $10 for families, and all money collected will be used for the maintenance and restoration of the mansion. 

STREATOR - Car Wash
The Streator High School Marching Band will sponsor its annual Car Wash on Saturday, July 26, in conjunction with its Band Camp Program. The car wash will take place at two locations in Streator: the Kroger Parking Lot (west side by the fuel center) and the Streator Fire Station (North side). Donations will be accepted to help the Band Program with Band Parent volunteers and student band members doing the work. Everyone is invited to support the band!

OTTAWA - Golf Tournament
Ottawa City Golf Tournament will be held on July 26 and 27. The tournament is sponsored by the Ottawa Golf Association and consists of a 36 hole medal play. Saturday's tournament will take place at at Dayton Ridge and Sunday's tournamet will be held at Pine Hills. All entries must be submitted by July 19. Local and USGA Rules apply. Send entry forms to Pine Hills Golf Club.  For more information, please contact Bill Serby at 815-955-7511.

LASALLE - Shop for SIDS Awareness
The Shop for SIDS Awareness event will be held on Sunday, July 27th from 12:00 p.m. - 4 p.m.at Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Course on 658 U.S. 6, in LaSalle, IL. This event will support the Aden Lamps Foundation and will feature handmade and retail items for sale as well as raffles. ARLINGTON - Chicken Dinner
St. Patrick Parish's Annual Chicken Dinner is Sunday July 27. Serving is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bishop Franz Hall in Arlington. The menu is fried chicken, German potato salad or French fries, applesauce or lettuce salad, homemade pies and dessert and a beverage. Adults $7; children 10 and under $3; and preschool free. Tickets purchased at the door. Carry-outs available

STREATOR - Bible School
St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church on 509 E. Broadway in Streator will be hosting a vacation bible school from Monday, July 28th - Friday, August 1st, 2014. the bible school will start at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m. each night. The theme will be "Gangway to Galilee, and students are expected to learn how Jesus calls us, teaches us, keeps us safe, and saves/provides to us. There will be bible stories, music, dinner, crafts, and games each day, and all children ages 3 years to 8th grade are welcome to attend. STREATOR - Elementary School Registration Dates
Streator Elementary School will be holding registration for students at the Knights of Columbus in Streator Tuesday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 30 from noon until 6 p.m. Orientation day is Tuesday, Aug. 19 and the first full day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 20. Proof of residency is required for all students. Birth certificates are required for all pre-school, kindergarten, and new or transfer students, and physicals must be turned in to the school office on or before the first day of school.

MENDOTA - Free Concert

STREATOR - NATIONAL FARMER'S MARKET WEEK 
Streator Downtown Farmers Market celebrates national farmers market week! In celebration, Streator Downtown Farmers Market will kick off the week with a Beekeeping 101 class on Monday Aug. 4, and a kids cooking class for 10 – 12 year olds on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Both classes will be held at Park Place in Streator at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required because limited space is available, and there will be a $7 donation collected at the door for each class. Saturday, August 9th, will be the big market day with an expanded market, Art In the Park (still accepting artists), and a petting zoo going on all day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Y will have Zumba on the Pavilion at 9 a.m. followed by Truman’s Ridge bluegrass band at 10 a.m. For more information, or to register, call (815)-257-6807.

WOODLAND - Registration 
Woodland Community Unit School District #5 will hold registration for kindergarten through 12th grade on August 6th from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.  Pre-registration is available on the website at woodland5.org. Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grade physicals are due at the registration. Dental exams are mandatory for kindergarten students. Residents new to the district must bring two forms of proof of residency; photo ID, and a utility bill in their name. The first day of pupil attendance will be Friday, August 15th.

LASALLE - 5K RUN/WALK
The 'Boo' Milby Memory 5K run/special one mile walk will be held on Saturday, August 6th, 2014 at Northwest School on 229 O'Conor Ave. in LaSalle. Check in starts at 6:45 a.m. and the event starts at 8:00 a.m. Entry fee is $20 before August 5th or $25 on race day. STREATOR - Preschool Registration
Holy Trinity Lutheran Pre-School is holding an Open House/Registration for the 2014/2015 school year on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m.  The open house will take place at the pre-school at 101 Trinity Drive, Streator, IL.  This will provide an opportunity to see the classrooms/playground area, find out classes/times, meet the teachers and register your child.  Refreshments will be provided.

MENDOTA - Paperback Book Collection 
'Friends of the Library' is collecting paperback books for their annual paperback book sale which will be held on Saturday, August 9th during the Mendota Sweet Corn Festival. Please bring your gently used paperback books to the drop off boxes which are located at the libarary, Sulliavn's, First United Methodist Church, Zion Methodist Church, St. John's Lutheran Church, Holy Cross Church and United Presbyterian Church. 

STREATOR - Blood Drive
The American Cross will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 1 until 6 p.m. at the Results Company Conference Room, 232 Pratt Street in Streator. PERU - Car Show
Peru Ambulance will host Peru Hot August Nights on Saturday, Aug. 9 starts at 4 p.m. Then a cruise through town starting at 6 p.m. Trophies awarded at 8 p.m. Drive-in screening of the popular classic Grease at 8:15 p.m. Food & soda available for purchase.

PERU - Doin' it for Dan Benefit
The family and friends of Dan Dempsey, a member of the Peru Ambulance Service who was injured in an accident while transporting a patient to Peoria, have organized a benefit called "Doin' it for Dan." The event will take place at the Peru Eagles Club on August 23rd from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are available at the Peru Eagles Club, Travel Connections, Peru Airport, Cowboy and Tony's, and Peru Ambulance. MENDOTA - Grade School Reunion
The Ophir Grade School reunion for all former students (1952-1998) will be held at the Mendota Moose Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and followed by a buffet dinner. The reunion also includes a Ecumenical Church Service on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Triumph Church followed by a potluck luncheon at the Triumph Community Building. AMBOY - 4th Annual Depot Days Dash
The Amboy Education Foundation is sponsoring the 4th annual Depot Days Dash on Saturday, August 23rd, in Amboy. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. at Amboy High School and ends on North east Avenue in downtown Amboy near the Depot Museum. PERU - Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike
The 22nd annual Red Cross Walk, Run, Bike will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Baker Lake in Peru. Registration begins at 12 p.m., with the event to follow at 1 p.m., and all registered participants will receive a t-shirt. This is a family oriented event that will include food, drinks, raffles, music and outdoor games. Kids can enjoy the Bike Rodeo that offers training and includes a free bike helmet (while supplies last). SUBLETTE - "Celebrating 160 Years of Sublette"
Sublettefest will be held Sept. 12 through 14 in downtown Sublette. OTTAWA - WHL Wallace Memorial Event
The WHL Wallace Memorial Event will be held in Ottawa from Friday, September 19th - Sunday, September 21st. On Friday, there will be an open house and presentation at the Reddick Mansion featuring women in the Civil War. On Saturday, there will be sutlers, vendors, food booths open to the public, a luminary program in Washington Park, demonstations by the 17th Corps. Field Hospital, and much much more. Finally, on Sunday, there will be a battle re-enactment, early morning church service, and more! All proceeds go to the restoration and maintenance of the Dickey Cemetery, General WHL Wallace's final resting place. 

LASALLE - Electronic Collection
There will be an electronic collection on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the LaSalle Governmental Complex parking lot.
